Holydays in soviet sanatoriums
A collective documentary project initiated by British journalist Maryam Omidi.
A vacation in a classic sanatorium in Tajikistan made an indelible impression on Maryam Omidi.
Upon returning from the trip, she immediately launched a campaign on the Kickstarter crowdfunding
platform to raise funds for an expedition to the existing Soviet sanatoriums.
Maryam gathered an international team of young talented photographers and outlined the expedition's route.
It included 13 countries of the former USSR: Abkhazia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan,
Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan.
The team chose only existing and maximally preserved their original architectural appearance objects.
After visiting the sanatoriums, the project participants found that many of them fit seamlessly into the new reality,
in addition to relatively modern spa treatments offering something much more exciting -
a nostalgic immersion in the Soviet utopia.
