Instant Tomorrow Exhibition - Montabaur Germany - B05 Art Space

Photographed in the anonymous skyscraper castles of Moscow's suburbs, Dimitry Lookianov takes us on a journey into an idiosyncratic and frightening dystopia in his book "Instant Tomorrow", which threatens to become reality, indeed it has already become so for many. It is the vision of a technoid and sterile world where there seems to be no 
room for closeness, warmth and the natural.
Only in the distance, in the view out of the window, nature still appears as an abstract place of longing,
referring to a past to which only vague memories lead.
Lookianov constructs this outside like a border, an impenetrable wall that encloses the life inside.
His landscapes and exterior views, photographed primarily in winter, seem like castles and walls that only want to be used in predetermined paths and appear to be intended 
for fast transit at most. As a transfer point between the safe capsules of this world.

The people who populate it seem to be more closely connected to their devices and machines than to each other. Lookianov shows them in strange moments of pausing, as if they were minors waiting for the call to action. They are the objects in these pictures, dominated by the subject of technology.
In the combination of landscapes, cityscapes, interiors, portraits and details, Lookianov creates a closed, constant world that refers to one of the great social upheavals of our time. The voluntary and largely unquestioned addition of new technologies in all areas of life.
From communication to health, from care to mobility, we couple ourselves to devices, make ourselves dependent on them and lose skills that have been acquired and passed on over generations.
With "Instant Tomorrow" Dimitry Lookianov gives a frightening outlook on a future of self-chosen immaturity 
in a finally dehumanized world.
  
Conclusion: A well photographed and strongly narrated dystopian vision of an almost 
Orwellian future to which people voluntarily submit. Frighteningly good.
